About Salem

Who we are

Salem is a community based child care centre under the auspices of the Uniting Church in Australia. UnitingCare Children's Services is one of the largest community based children's services providers in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

Locally, the service is managed by a management committee comprising members of Tuggeranong Uniting Church, and representatives of the parents. The management committee is responsible for two centres: Salem Children's Centre at Kambah, and Bunyarra Children's Centre at Chisholm.

The buildings in which we operate are owned by the ACT government.

Our Name

The name "Salem" is drawn from a bible story where Jesus blesses the little children in the village of Salem. Read the story in the Gospel of Mark: 10:13-16

Our Fees

Please contact the centre for current daily and weekly fees.

Our Stand downs

Salem closes on public holidays and a Professional Development Day usually in second week of October and is closed 1 week between Christmas and New Year.

The Uniting Church

The centres are managed by Tuggeranong Uniting Church on behalf of Uniting Care which is part of the NSW synod of the Uniting Church in Australia. The Uniting Church has a long history of involvement in community care, and is one of the largest providers of child care, aged care and community welfare in Australia. In addition the church has a proud history of advocacy on social justice issues.

Locally, the Uniting Church meets at Wanniassa, and welcomes visitors and people who would like to know more about the Christian faith. Inquiries to the parish office on 6231 0488. Worship services are at 9.00 am and 10.30 am every Sunday and at 7.30 pm every Monday for a meditative and reflective time of worship.
